ABOUT VIVIEN
I live in Colchester, Essex, where I was born and bred and chose to raise a family.
Having enjoyed art from a young age, it was only natural to learn to paint with watercolour and acrylics once my two children were of school age.
I have pursued painting ever since but studying an Art Practice Degree at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds has helped me to develop and define who I am as an artist.
Outdoors is where I find my inspiration, and a love of birdwatching means that very few of my paintings don't feature birds somewhere! And almost all find their narrative in the protection of wildlife.
Building on my degree research project, which investigated observational drawing in nature, my sketching techniques are now greatly influenced by authors, Nathan Goldstein and Kimon Nicolaides.
My drawings have developed to express more than just a detailed replication and I look forward to sharing these methods with others in future.
